Welcome to the eleventh edition of our HUTS Town Guide Series. Today we’ll walk you through our HUTS musts in Rhinebeck, a historic town and cultural mecca of the Hudson Valley. As home to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds this festival laden town will have you wanting to take a trip there every weekend for anything from a three day car show, a sheep and wool festival, to a hot air balloon festival!  

Where to Eat:

Rhinebeck might have some of the most diverse options for eateries in the Hudson Valley. From  a traditional japanese sushi restaurant to a middle eastern falafel stand that just opened a restaurant, you will not leave here hungry. Our HUTS go-to is a Rhinebeck institution open year round, Dels’s Roadside. This classic roadside pit stop with a focus on locally sourced ingredients will please your palate and your sweet tooth. Grab a burger or a pita wrap, then finish it off with a scoop or two of a seasonal ice cream flavor like sweet potato marshmallow praline, or an eggnog milkshake!

What to do outside:

If you’re in town for one of the many festivals that take place in Rhinebeck we highly recommend taking a stroll through the festival grounds! One of our favorites is the Rhinebeck Antique Car Show and Swap Meet! A three day festival every spring where you’ll find your dream car or some unique antiques for your home. For something more adventurous, you can take to the sky at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome! This is a seriously cool and unique experience, you can take a Biplane ride in a 1929 Biplane and get an overhead tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion and the old Rondout lighthouse! This breathtaking experience will have you coming back for years to come, and if flying isn’t quite your style you can check out their museum to keep your feet close to the ground.

What to do inside:

In need of some indoor activities? Check out Upstate Films, started in 1972 this movie theatre showcases independent filmmakers, critically acclaimed documentaries and many award winning films. They have adapted to virtual screening so you can still support and foster the local filmmakers of the Hudson Valley. If you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, another great indoor option is Hudson Valley Pottery! Schedule a private lesson and take a spin on the wheel. Create whatever your heart desires, then take a look through their shop of ceramics made in their studio. 

Where to Stay:

The Olde Rhinebeck Inn built in 1745 is one of the most enchanting B&B’s we’ve seen. Opened and restored by one of the youngest Innkeepers in America when she opened the city’s first official Bed and Breakfasts in Brooklyn. This inn will make all you cottage-core lovers swoon, get cozy after your Rhinebeck adventures with an in room massage and dream about being an innkeeper one day!
