Read moreFollow HUTS along on our twenty-fourth Town Guide. Today we are exploring Pine Plains, a town chock full of mother nature’s finest hiking trails, lakes and furry friends. A weekend here will be an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, and we can’t forget about some cool history and good eats too.
Sloop Brewing has its fair share of funky names for their beers and that follows them to the menu for the onsite restaurant. Our favorite funky bite at Sloop is the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger, you heard us right. With plenty of options on the menu for all this will quickly become your go to spot for good eats in the area.
Pine Plains is known for its plethora of outdoor recreational areas. For relaxed family fun head over to the public lakefront park on Stissing Lake, it’s a playground for boating, fishing and swimming. If you’re a bird watching fan, or just an animal lover don’t miss the Audubon Buttercup Farm Sanctuary with over 80 species of birds that live on this 641 acre sanctuary including Great Blue Herons, Wood Ducks, Bobolinks to name a few.
If you like local history and a stiff drink head over to Dutch’s Spirits to get a tour of their beautiful and historic distillery. Their booze might not be the only spirits you see on the tour. About 88 years ago, Dutch’s Spirits was shut down in the 1930’s as an illegal bootlegging operation by known mobster Dutch Schultz. Rumor has it that Schultz still haunts his old hideouts below the distillery!
“The Nook” is a large studio above the barn on this stunning property.
